About the project

Sport as a pathway
to employment

Youth unemployment is one of today’s most pressing challenges. Around 5 million young people aged 15-29 were unemployed in the EU in 2023. By creating innovative tools, including a digital platform for self-assessment and certification, YouthSportCV helps young people, particularly those not in education, employment, or training (NEETs), to showcase these skills to the labour market.

Through pilot programme activities involving youngsters from vulnerable areas of Pilot territories (Barcelona, Lisbon and Athens) and collaboration with coaches, educators, and employers, the project bridges the gap between informal learning in sport and real-world career opportunities, contributing to a more inclusive and future-ready workforce.

Objectives

Project framework and impact

The general objective of the project is to contribute towards young people’s employability with a special focus on NEETs and increase their employment opportunities, promoting the recognition of their soft skills acquired in practising sports. YouthSportCV is designed to tackle the persistent gap between young people’s potential and their access to meaningful employment.

Issues

  • High levels of youth unemployment across Europe, particularly among young people aged 15-29.
  • Limited recognition of young people’s soft skills developed in a sports environment.
  • Lack of a clear system to assess, validate, and recognise these skills.
  • Weak collaboration strategies of young people to the labour market.

Measurement Strategies

  • Monitoring engagement in pilot activities and training programmes.
  • Evaluating partnerships formed between organisations and employers.
  • Assessing employment outcomes and opportunities created for participants.

Main Outputs

  • Map of soft skills gained in sports.
  • New Intervention Methodology (Pilot Programmes).
  • Short-term online course for coaches.
  • Innovative YouthSportCV platform.
